چکیده

We give a fully polynomial randomized approximation scheme to compute a lower bound for the matching polynomial of any weighted graph at a positive argument. For the matching polynomial of complete bipartite graphs with bounded weights these lower bounds are asymptotically optimal. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 05A15, 05C70, 15A52, 68Q10.

Tenacity and some other Parameters of Interval Graphs can be computed in polynomial time

In general, computation of graph vulnerability parameters is NP-complete. In past, some algorithms were introduced to prove that computation of toughness, scattering number, integrity and weighted integrity parameters of interval graphs are polynomial. In this paper, two different vulnerability parameters of graphs, tenacity and rupture degree are defined. In general, computing the tenacity o...

Relationship between Coefficients of Characteristic Polynomial and Matching Polynomial of Regular Graphs and its Applications

ABSTRACT. Suppose G is a graph, A(G) its adjacency matrix and f(G, x)=x^n+a_(n-1)x^(n-1)+... is the characteristic polynomial of G. The matching polynomial of G is defined as M(G, x) = x^n-m(G,1)x^(n-2) + ... where m(G,k) is the number of k-matchings in G. In this paper, we determine the relationship between 2k-th coefficient of characteristic polynomial, a_(2k), and k-th coefficient of matchin...

Computing the Expected Values of some Properties of Randomly Weighted Graphs

Consider the setting of randomly weighted graphs, namely, graphs whose edge weights are independent discrete random variables with finite support over the non-negative reals. Given a randomly weighted graphG, we are interested in computing the expected values of various graph properties of G. In particular, we focus on the problem of computing the expected diameter of G. It is easy to show that...

Shapley meets Shapley

This paper concerns the analysis of the Shapley value in matching games. Matching games constitute a fundamental class of cooperative games which help understand and model auctions and assignments. In a matching game, the value of a coalition of vertices is the weight of the maximum size matching in the subgraph induced by the coalition. The Shapley value is one of the most important solution c...

On Counting Perfect Matchings in General Graphs

Counting perfect matchings has played a central role in the theory of counting problems. The permanent, corresponding to bipartite graphs, was shown to be #P-complete to compute exactly by Valiant (1979), and a fully polynomial randomized approximation scheme (FPRAS) was presented by Jerrum, Sinclair, and Vigoda (2004) using a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) approach. However, it has remained a...
